Losing the fear
For most of us, majority of our decisions in life is governed by FEAR. It all starts, as soon as we are old enough to be exposed to choices. If we look back, we will realize that some of the biggest decisions and choices that we made, which shaped our life, were not made because we wanted to achieve something, or we felt passionately about them, or they just happened by chance…. it was all because we were afraid.
Remember the days when you wanted to go out and play hide and seek with your friends, but were made to study. We didn’t study because we wanted to or we thought something good will come out of it. We studied because we were afraid that we might get punished in school or mom/dad would get angry. All of us remember our first crush/love. It’s always close to your heart and unless you lose your memory in some accident, you never forget it. Yet, most of us wouldn’t have dared to go and talk to that person. I guess you know the answer. It was the FEAR of rejection and consequences. What will happen if he/she says no or someone gets to know about it.
Let’s try to look at some of the major decisions that we took as a teenager. Remember opting for Maths and Science in your plus two, when you actually wanted to become a doctor or a writer. It was parents induced FEAR of not getting a good job in the future. Let’s move to college and try to look at more of our decisions. 90 percent of the students in India are engineers, by degree. All of us were made to pick our field of study not as per our interest, but according to the options chosen by students last year. It was the FEAR of leaving behind in the rat race to god knows what goals, or as we commonly know it herd mentality. As we grow, the FEAR keeps growing. The decision to take up that finance job, the decision to agree for arrange marriage, the decision to hide your relationship with your family, the decision to not quit smoking, the decision to agree with foolish commands of your boss and ultimately the decision to not follow your dreams..all of them were taken, well you know now, because of FEAR
Life is very precious, and we must learn to value it. We always talk about leaders, business tycoons and other achievers and believe that it was all because of hard work, commitment, passion, hunger etc. True, all these qualities were there but the one and only one thing that made them stand out was their FEARLESS attitude. Stop working your ass-off for a job you don’t love, stop loving a life that you don’t want, stop preparing hard and giving more than 100 percent for an exam you don’t want to give, stop converting your passion to hobbies, stop being AFRAID.
BREAK THE CHAINS, BE FEARLESS
